About:
This museum is the largest museum of decorative arts and design in the UK. It was born out of the Great Exhibition that took place in 1851 organised by Albert, the Prince Consort and Henry Wood. Their aim was to inspire craftsmen and manufacturers alike by creating an exhibition showcasing the newest ideas in industry and design. After the success of this exhibition, they took the proceeds and bought 80 acres of land in this area where they built a collection of museums, the V & A being one. Originally called the South Kensington Museum, it was renamed in 1899 to honour the Queen Victoria and her late husband.
The museum displays all sorts of artefacts, from all over the world. Including cast models of great sculptures from Rome, beautiful jewellery, Middle Eastern treasures and British curiosities.
